Bring your rental records. Start with one useful thing.
You do not have to reorganise years of paperwork before an app can be useful. Start with the property and the next thing you need to find. Keep your existing originals while you build the new record.
Choose one job, not the whole filing cabinet.
An upcoming service, an open repair or last month’s rent is a useful starting point. Add the relevant home and room, then save the details you need for that job. You can return to unfinished setup and add more records later.
Bring a small set of spreadsheet rows.
Housetold supports CSV imports for rent, expenses and contacts. Use the available template, copy the appropriate fields from your spreadsheet and start with a manageable group of records. A spreadsheet file may need saving as CSV first; not every file or column is supported.
Read the preview before you save.
Check the property, dates, amounts and currencies in the preview. Review rows flagged as invalid, duplicate or conflicting. A rent import records what your file says; it does not check those amounts against your bank or collect a payment.
Put the document beside the thing it explains.
Upload the appliance manual, a certificate, receipt, photo or PDF. Review suggested document details and dates before saving. Link paperwork to the relevant equipment where supported, and set a reminder when you need one.
Keep old conversations where they are, then start the next one clearly.
There is no automatic import of your complete email or WhatsApp history. You can save relevant supported documents and use Housetold for property and repair conversations with people who have the appropriate home access. Share files and messages externally through supported phone apps when needed.
Decide what another person should see.
Check owner-only and tenant-visible settings before sharing. The heating instructions may be useful to the tenant; your private finances should remain separate. Review access when a tenancy or the people looking after the home change.
Know how you will keep copies.
Housetold offers supported data exports, selected document files and several PDF reports. Review the contents and recipients. The current document ZIP has a 25-file limit; there is no complete unlimited one-button archive. Keep the originals you rely on.
